Marine Technology Building
Florida Keys Community College is
pleased to announce the opening of
its new Marine Technology building
in Spring 2014. Overlooking the
dive training lagoon on the Key West
Campus, the 30,000 square foot,
state-of-the-art facility will provide
an enhanced learning environment
for students, particularly those
training in one of the College’s
signature programs: Marine
Engineering, Management and
Seamanship.
The first floor—housing boats,
engines and trailers—will be
connected to the second floor via
a hoisting system. Engines will be
easily transferred from the storage
area to the diesel labs and engine
testing room where students will
receive hands-on training with
various marine engine systems.
Above the labs on the third floor,
will be classrooms. One classroom,
with the capability of being split into
two, will be specially-equipped with
lecture capture technology that will
allow instructors to easily record
lectures and post them online.
This capability will allow students
to revisit previous classes or view
missed classes—an added flexibility
especially valuable to students
juggling multiple responsibilities in
addition to their studies.
The classroom adjacent will be
dedicated to maritime navigation
instruction where students will have
ample space to study and work with
nautical charts and maps. A shower
and locker room, a conference room,
and faculty offices will also be on the
third floor.
All are invited to the Grand Opening
Celebration (date TBD). Visit www.
fkcc.edu for announcements
and updates about the Marine
Technology Building and other
College news and events.
