New Programs
Professional Mariner Certificate Program
Florida Keys Community College is unveiling its Professional Mariner Program. In this program the student develops the skills to operate a wide range of vessels from an 8’ dingy, to a 100 Gross Ton Passenger vessel. We offer courses like Basic Seamanship which teaches the basics of boat handling, navigation, anchoring, maintenance and more. Our next program is Coastal Navigation a hands on training program that teaches the new mariner all aspects of navigation from Dead Reckoning, to Electronic, and Finally an introduction to Celestial Navigation. For Those who wish to work on the water as a licensed Captain we offer Operator of an Uninspected Vessel (OUPV) or 6 Pak, Marine Radio Operator, and in conjunction with, "The Captians School" 100 Gross Ton Master, Sail and Towing Endorsement. Our Courses are US Coast Guard Approved and State Accredited so you will earn both college credits and a Merchant Mariner Licenses at the same time.
New Alternative Energy Training and Certification Program
We are proud to offer training in the field of alternative energy. Starting in the fall 2008 FKCC is offering training for Photovoltaic Panel Installation and Operation (Solar Panel).
This course will be geared toward Electricians, General Contractor, and Solar Contractors who are looking for certification. Additionally we are off ring a consumer class that offers training in the production and use of Biodiesel, Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO), Solar, and Wind. Dates for these classes will be available from the registration office starting August 25, 2008.
