The Florida Keys Community College Student Government Association is comprised of Executive and Legislative Branches.  The Executive Branch consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian/Sergeant at Arms

The Legislative Branch consists of student Senators and chartered club Representatives.  Senators are selected according to the same criteria as Executive Branch officers.  Club Representatives will be appointed by each campus club (i.e. Club President will be the SGA Representative).

In order to hold an office, a student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.  The student’s cumulative college GPA must be at least 2.5.  A student must have already completed at least 6 credit hours at FKCC to hold office.

Elections are held in the spring (April) so that Executive and Legislative members can serve the following year.  Applications are sent out to the student body.  All students who submit an application and meet the criteria are reviewed by an Elections Review Committee, comprised of faculty, staff and students.  Final candidates are interviewed, and selections are made.

A SGA officer may be removed for cause by 2/3 vote of the quorum after nomination and seconding of the motion by the association members. 

A variety of committees can be established on an as needed basis, including ad hoc committees for certain events/activities.  Standing committees include fundraising, events, elections, and budget.  A faculty or staff member will serve on each committee.

Ø      Plan and promote campus activities and events

Ø      Promote leadership development

Ø      Encourage responsibility, self discipline and good citizenship

Ø      Participate in community service projects

Ø      Promote education and democracy
