What is a Student Ambassador?
Student Ambassadors work the Advising Services department to serve as representative for FKCC. A Student Ambassador has a desire to work with faculty, staff, students and members of the community to promote FKCC and its programs and services. The position of Ambassador is one of high esteem and a source of self enrichment which will prove beneficial in future endeavors.
What does a Student Ambassador do?
The Ambassador will assist with: •orientation •registration •recruitment events and high-school visits •phone-a-thons •campus tours special events
Why should I be a Student Ambassador and what will it do for me?
Serving as an Ambassador will: •Provide you with FUN resume enhancing experiences •Provide you with a full in-state tuition scholarship for fall and spring terms •Expand your communication and team-building skills •Provide you the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people •Give you the opportunity to meet other hardworking and enthusiastic students. •Enable you to share your knowledge of the college with high school students and members of the community. •Provide you with letters of recommendation from the college president and possibly other faculty or staff
Does serving as an Ambassador take a lot of time?
No. Assignments, speaking engagements, or projects may involve evenings and weekends but will be distributed among the Ambassadors as evenly as possible. Our goal is to work around the schedule of each Ambassador.
A minimum of the following is required by each Ambassador during his or her terms of service: •Volunteer hours for summer (optional) •Must attend Student Activities Committee meetings held once a month (to be informed of upcoming events) •Must be available to work between 15 and 20 hours per semester including occasional evening and weekend commitments (hours will vary depending on the time of the year (i.e. registration periods, college fairs, orientations). Consideration will be given to student class schedules.
What it takes to become a Student Ambassador
Student Ambassadors represent a cross-section of FKCC. Students provide a link between prospective students, faculty and the resources at Florida Keys Community College . Ambassadors offer a realistic expectation of college life and support a smooth transition to FKCC.
•Application and Interview •Interested students must complete •An application for the Student Ambassador Program •A Federal Student Aid Form (FASFA) •An interview process
Qualifications •Completed at least one FKCC 3 credit course •(Students who wish to be exempted must submit a letter to the VPSA that details the experience and skills that allow for a waiver of the 3-credit rule) •2.5 GPA or higher •Good communication skills •Enthusiastic about FKCC •2 letters of recommendation •Must be enrolled as a full-time degree seeking student •(Students who wish to be exempted must submit a letter to the VPSA that details the experience and skills that allow for a waiver of the 3-credit rule) •Remain in good academic standing
All Ambassadors will be evaluated at the end of each semester for approval of continuation to the next semester.
