Applying for Financial Aid

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for any form of federal, state, or institutional financial aid, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  2. You must have a valid social security number.
  3. You must be admitted into a degree-seeking program. You may apply for aid before you are admitted but you must be admitted before aid can be awarded or disbursed to you.
  4. If you are a male of at least 18 years of age, you must be registered with selective service.
  5. To retain eligibility you must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  6. If you have attended other institutions before FKCC, we will need to review your transcripts before aid may be authorized to ensure that you are meeting satisfactory academic progress.

 

 Applying for Aid

The gateway to receiving financial aid requires completion of a FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Students should compelte the application based on the term they plan on attending:

The FAFSA application is a 3 step process:

 

1.       Apply for a PIN, This step will require you and your parents (if you are under age 24) to enter identification information such as social security # and date of birth to request your pin. The Federal government reviews this data and will return a pin to you in 2 to 3 business days via email.

2.       Complete the FAFSA application, This step will require that you refer to your/parents 2008  taxes to answer financial questions.  Please be sure to include our Federal School Code 001485.

3.      Sign FAFSA electronically.  Once your application is completed, you and your parents (if you are under the age of 24) will need to

 

Completed FAFSAs, are submitted directly to the Central Processing System (CPS) and transmitted electronically to the college within a few business days. If your application is rejected, we will notify you in writing. If your application is selected for “VERIFICATION”, you will receive a letter in the mail requesting:

If you/parents/spouse DID NOT file a 2008 Federal tax return then complete and sign an Income Certification for 2008 to cover Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Summer 2010 terms

If you/parents/spouse CANNOT FIND your 2008 Federal tax return and W2’s, please contact the IRS at 800–829–1040.  Please be sure to request a TAX TRANSSCRIPT & W2 Wage Summary (we need both).  The copy that you submit to us must be signed.

If you/parents/spouse DID NOT file a 2009 Federal tax return then complete and sign an 2010-2011 Income Certification Statement

 

If you/parents/spouse CANNOT FIND your 2009 Federal tax return and W2’s, please contact the IRS at 800–829–1040.  Please be sure to request a TAX TRANSSCRIPT & W2 Wage Summary (we need both).  The copy that you submit to us must be signed.

 

 

Once verification is complete on a student file, the appropriate Federal Financial Aid may be applied.  Pell grants are automatically authorized to student accounts.  Award letters are periodically created an mailed to students. In the event that a student is not eligible for Pell grant aid, a letter informing them of alternate aid sources is mailed to them.  Other sources of aid include:

 

 

#1 Stafford Loans 

In order to process a Stafford Loan request it is necessary for students to complete their FAFSA application, finish the verification process if selected before they click here to complete the loan process .

 

 

 

#2 Scholarships
