Virtual Campus Overview

What is the Virtual Campus at FKCC?

The term “virtual campus” at FKCC refers to the college's online resources delivered through technology . Courses offered through the Virtual Campus are offered in a way where the student and the instructor do not have to be at the same place at the same time in order for teaching and learning to occur. Through the use of technology, students can fit classes into their busy home and/or work schedules. Online courses allow you to participate from your home at a time that is convenient for you. Classes that meet in the traditional face-to-face format may use technology to enhance instruction.

You can browse virtual campus courses offered this or another term by selecting Virtual Campus on the Campus drop down menu on the college's course schedule . Check the online schedule for course listings under the Virtual Campus at star5a.fkcc.edu/prod/bwckschd.p_disp_dyn_sched.

Please note: It takes up to 12-24 hours from the time a student registers for an online, hybrid or enhanced course for the student to gain access to the course in Desire2Learn (FKCC learning management system).

Virtual Campus courses do not necessarily have on-campus requirements for instruction. Orientations, some classes and examinations may be held at a campus location. Contact the instructor of the virtual course for specific requirements.

FKCC uses the “virtual campus” for many other resources. There is the capability to check you enrollment status online, look up grades, and even register for classes online. The library at FKCC offers many online resources to its students.  You can even purchase your textbooks online.

If you have any questions about our Virtual Campus course listings contact FKCC Advising Services at 305-809-3247 or contact FKCC Enrollment Services at 305-809-3293 to enroll in a Virtual Campus class.

Course Types Defined

Online Learning or Web courses can be taken with few or no on-campus visits and use one or many different types of technology for remote delivery of course materials. This may include, but is not limited to, Desire2Learn, the World Wide Web, and newsgroups.

Blended/Hybrid courses are a combination of web-based and face-to-face classroom courses, with the mix of online to on-campus activities determined by the instructor. Blended courses have a definite on-campus meeting schedule, in addition to any online activities. See the Online Learning link above for more information.

Enhanced courses are traditional courses that use Desire2Learn as a resource but still meet face-2-face the normal number of sessions.
