•Is my financial aid automatically renewed each year?

No. You must reapply each academic year. Applications are available January 1 for the upcoming academic year (the upcoming fall semester).

•What is an EFC?

This is the Expected Family Contribution. It is the amount you and your family are expected to contribute to your educational expenses. The EFC is calculated based on the information you entered on the FAFSA.

•Will I have to pay back any financial aid money if I withdraw or quit going to classes?

Any financial aid recipient who completely withdraws or ceases attendance prior to completing over 60% of any given term will be required to repay all or a percentage of the aid received. Students who find themselves in a situation where they must withdraw should make an effort to contact the Financial Aid Office immediately. In addition, the last date of attendance for withdrawn course(s) must be documented in order to minimize any overpayment and/or repayent of Federal funds. Failure to repay or make arrangements to repay these funds will make you ineligible for future Federal assistance from FKCC or any other institution. The Department of Education has not made any provisions for extenuating circumstances. There is no appeal process. For additional information please contact the Office of Financial Aid.

All financial aid recipients MUST notify the Office of Financial Aid when making any changes in their course schedule. This includes completion of a degree. Failure to do so may cause loss of aid. Students receiving aid must check with the Office of Financial Aid before withdrawing from their course(s).

•What is FKCC’s Federal School Code?

001485

•Why did my financial aid award change from last year?

The formula for determining your EFC may change each year. Any changes in information you furnish on your FAFSA may change from year to year.

•Do I have to be enrolled full-time to receive financial aid?

You do NOT have to be enrolled full-time, however, some federal aid programs require you to be enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credit hours) each semester. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for more detailed information.

•How long will the application process take?
After the Federal Processing Agency receives your FAFSA, it will take approximately 4-6 weeks to process your application. If you apply through FAFSA on the web (at www.fafsa.ed.gov) it will take approximatley 2-4 weeks. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) which will inform you to check the status of your federal application. You may present it to the Financial Aid Office for review to determine your aid eligibility.
