RAVE Program
RAVE Program
Florida Keys Community College offers assistance to special population students pursuing a Vocational Certificate program or an Associate of Science (AS) degree. This assistance is offered under the RAVE (Renewing and Advancing through Vocational Education) Program. STUDENTS MUST SATISFY ALL CRITERIA TO QUALIFY:
1. Student must be a member of a special population:
· Single parent (mother or father)
· Displaced homemaker
· Academically disadvantaged (learning disabled as documented by a physician or counselor)
· Physically disabled (documented by a physician)
· Limited English speaking skills and grammar
· Non-traditional student (gender in degree program)
2. Student must apply for financial aid through FAFSA. The student must have a completed FAFSA application. The FAFSA will determine financial aid need. www.fafsa.ed.gov/
3. Student must be enrolled in an Associate of Science or Vocational Certificate program at Florida Keys Community College.
4. Student must maintain an overall 2.0 GPA or better as required to recieve Financial Aid.
5. Student must complete RAVE application and return it to Financial Aid for processing.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE THROUGH RAVE:
1. Childcare Assistance – Reimbursement assistance for postsecondary career and technical program participants.
· Reimbursement is given on class days attended (with documentation).
· Funds are not paid directly to the student.
· Must use a licensed day care provided.
2. Transportation Assistance – Reimbursement is 0.10 cents per mile. Student must live more than ten miles from the FKCC campus where attending classes.
3. Tuition/Book Assistance – When students have exhausted all Pell grant aid, RAVE may assist with cost of tuition and books. Funds are not paid directly to the student.
4. Tutoring – Tutoring in required core academic subjects such as math and English as well as in career and technical education subjects is available for students. Tutoring must take place on campus during office hours with an approved tutor.
5. Scholarships – Scholarships are available to RAVE students at various times throughout the year. Scholarships are awarded for academic performance.
NON-FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
1. Use of the RAVE Room (located by the Financial Aid Office on Key West campus). Available to all RAVE participants during normal business hours and includes:
a. Computers with Internet access.
b. Adobe Photoshop CS2software (for graphic design AS program students).
c. TV/DVDs with cable access.
d. Small vocational education resource library.
2. Additional equipment available for borrowing:
a. Graphing calculators (TI-83).
b. Digital voice recorders.
c. USB jump drives.
3. Personal assistance to RAVE members for:
a. Adults entering the professional work environment
b. Time management
c. Goal setting
d. Budgeting
e. Resumes
4. Referrals to community resources for assistance with:
a. Housing
b. Childcare
c. Legal services

8:00 am – 5:00 pm - M, T, Th
1:00 pm – 7 pm - W
Open on Thursday evenings as scheduled by tutors.
