Join us for a unique exploration of the common ground between Islam and Christianity drawing on the real-life international experiences of author and US Congressman, Mark D. Siljander (retired).  His innovative peacemaking efforts have instigated real change amidst political stalemates in countries such as Suden, Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq.  We’ll discuss the difference and similarities between these two faiths, strategy for contributing positive presence rather than fear and mistrust and how a renewal of ancient spiritual values contributes to alleviation of major conflicts today.

The human race seems inextricably bound to war and politics.  Films on the subjects can be evocative, allowing reflection and perspective.  In this course, films on the subjects of war and politics will be presented followed by a group discussion.

Narritive Therapy | LLC0103 | Location: Off Campus; Pink Plaza

This course introduces the notion that problems and the therapeutic theories utilized to address them are naturally defined with the knowledge and power the cutlure (and similar subsystems, i.e. family) gives them.  Students are presented exercises to broaden their perspective of their own stories by externalizing them in a narration.  It is a “respectful, yet playful” approach.

One Hundred Ton Gross Master | OHT0100 | Room Number: CS-1

This course allows a USCG licensed captain to upgrade from OUPV (6pack) to 100 Gross Tons Master.  The primary topics covered in this course include rigging, cargo handling, structural members, stability and trim, compass error and adjustment, pollution, fire fighting communications regulations, maritime law, life saving and survival, anchoring and towing, small vessel passenger regulations, and rules of the road.  Upon successful completion of this course, the attendee will be able to pass the USCG approved 100 GT Master Exam offered at the end of the course.

Surviving Death:  Dealing with Grief | SDD0200 | Room Number: Online

Everyone wants to be able to survive--and even thrive--after the death of loved one.  In this course, you will learn how to do that in 4 stages made up of 21 steps that build on each other, and move you forward to recovery.  You will learn that nothing is lost, just changed, and that meaning can be found on the other side of any experience.  You will learn how to resolve the anger and guilt that can keep you stuck.  You will learn a new way to think about the grief process, and ,any tools and techniques to help you deal with it.  You will also learn how to help your family members, friends, clients, or patients who are grieving.  Discover a new way to deal with any loss, and discover yourself in the process.

Medical Coding and Billing | MDC0300 | Room Number: 1-205

This combined 70 hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures.  The course covers the following areas:  CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty field (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-9 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements.  Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals, (CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS).  After obtaining the practical work experience (6 months to 2 years), student who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)-Certified Professional Code Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice); the American Health Information Association (AHIMA)  Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or National Certification Exams.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Program | PTC0300 | Room Number: D101

This comprehensive 50 hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam.  Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings-working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names.  Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.

Phlebotomy Technician | PBT0300 | Room Number: 1-203

This 90 hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.  Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.  Note: There is no outside externship rotation included with this program.

Digital Photography 1 & 2 All Inclusive | IDP0105 | Room Number:  1-202

This course will introduce the beginning student to the basics of digital photography. No experience is necessary, but the student will need a digital camera. Learn to shoot beautiful photographs with your digital camera. This course will take students beyond the technical aspects of their digital camera to cover composition and shooting styles. Topics covered will include camera field tricks and techniques and the use of special filters and raw mode. Four out of eight sessions will be spent outside of the classroom.
