EMS 1059C First Responder for Medical Professionals (4)
This course is not ordinarily counted in the Associate in Arts degree. This course is based on the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration and the DOT Standard Curriculum for first responders at scenes of an accident and/ or illness and
is designed to prepare the student for emergency care of a victim, providing the skills and knowledge of care prior to the
arrival of the Emergency Medical Technician/ Paramedic. Recognition of symptoms and signs of impending danger to the
patient’s life and accepted treatment modes for the conditions will be taught as well as techniques for extrication (light
duty) of the accident victim. This course is designed for firefighters, law enforcement officers, volunteer rescue personnel,
and those wishing to enter the EMS profession.

This course is not ordinarily counted in the Associate in Arts degree. EMT Recertification course is designed as a one
semester course, 3 credit hours in length, which will review and update the knowledge and skills of Emergency Care for
EMTs. The course follows the US DOT 1994 EMS National Standards Curriculum as required by the Florida Department of
Emergency Medical Services, and the Florida Department of Education.

This program is designed to prepare students for employment as nursing assistants, nursing aides, orderlies, and
attendants. Nursing assistants must be certified to work in Florida and successful completion of this program prepares the
student to take the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant examination and upon successfully passing the exam, can work as a
CNA.
