Students in the program are required to take non-credit-bearing, non-degree courses with students who are enrolled in the Project ACCESS program. These courses are referred to as Vertical courses and an Independent Living course. These courses are offered on campus at FKCC. Upon completion of these courses students will receive a Workforce Readiness certificate and be able to enroll in credit-bearing courses. Course descriptions are below:

Work and Vocational Training Introduction (VERTICAL 1)

  • This course, the first in a four-course sequence, provides initial training in career assessment and guidance, employability-related social skills, work-readiness, fundamental academics, and self-determinations and in self- advocacy in relationship to a student’s specific disability(ies).

  • This course also prepares students to enter vocational programs through enrollment in FKCC Project ACCESS.

Acquisition of Employability and Vocational Training (VERTICAL 2)

  • This course, the second in a four-course sequence, provides instruction in self-evaluation of industry-specific skills, employability-related social skills, work-readiness, fundamental academics, and self-determination and self-advocacy in relationship to a student’s specific disability(ies).

  • This course also supports students’ participation and progress in vocational programs through enrollment in FKCC Project ACCESS.

Supporting Vocational Training and Increasing Employability (VERTICAL 3)

  • This course, the third in a four-course sequence, provides instruction and experience in self-evaluation of industry-specific skills, employability-related interpersonal abilities, advanced work-readiness skills, fundamental academics, preparation for securing industry-specific employment, and self-determination and self-advocacy in relationship to a student’s specific disability(ies).

  • This course also supports students’ continued participation and progress toward completion in vocational programs through enrollment in Florida Coast Career Tech programs.

Vocational Completion & Employment Search (VERTICAL 4)

  • This course, the fourth in a four-course sequence, provides instruction and experience in self-evaluation of industry-specific skills and readiness to seek employment, employability-related interpersonal abilities, advanced work-readiness skills, fundamental academics, preparation for industry-specific employment, and self-determination and self-advocacy in relationship to a student’s specific disability(ies) .

  • This course also supports students’ completion of vocational programs through enrollment in Florida Coast Career Tech programs and begins the process of seeking industry-specific employment.

Independent Living

  • This course is designed to help prepare for living on your own. This class covers a wide range of topics to make living on you own easier. Subjects include living arrangements, money management, purchase of food, cooking, hygiene, healthcare, relationships, etiquette, transportation, furnishings, etc. Guest speakers and field trips are implemented in this course.
